Picture from the first hunting trip we took down in Zapata County....Fall 1989....Gary was a really good shot with a rifle and took that deer at about 225 yards.  Right after he fired that shot the rotted-out wooden bottom of the old deer blind he was in cracked and Gary was hanging with his butt out the bottom of the blind and needed help to extract himself.....needless to say he never heard the end of it......hard to accept that he is gone- we had a great time hunting and fishing together.

As I mentioned Gary was an Iowa farm boy and after a career in construction he wandered into Texas and decided on law school, He was the Associate Municipal Judge in the Southlake Municipal Court and was a solo attorney focusing on construction litigation. In addition to hunting and fishing, Gary was a skilled carpenter and had a real talent with rescue dogs.  He was asked to assist in locating a runaway and in the early morning hours drove around Southlake with a small grill in the back of his truck and would stop periodically and put some hamburger meat on......two nights later he coaxed the dog into his truck....only he could come up with a solution like that.

He was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in mid-2019 and wasn't given much time but battled on until August 2020,  He left a wife and two teenage daughters and will be missed by many,  his obituary is in my previous email.
