Pistol Silhouette

Boom! Whack! Clang!
Oh, the beautiful sounds of shooting metallic silhouettes.
Boom, from the gun firing. Whack, from the bullet hitting the steel target. Clang, from the target falling down.
Add to this music the camaraderie of fellow shooters, and what more could you want for a Saturday's enjoyment?
Pistol silhouette shooting at HCRPC is all about having FUN !!
The large, easy to hit targets are set at known distances: chickens at 40 meters, pigs at 50, turkeys at 75, rams at 100 meters. Two sizes of targets are available: 50%-scale for cowboy rifles and hunter's pistols, and 38%-scale for smallbore pistols (100%-scale is rifle targets shot at up to 500 meters). We have converted all the targets to manual resets, reducing the work required during a match: after you knock them down, you just pull a rope and the animals rise up to be shot again.
Two matches are held on the first Saturday of the month. The morning match (9:30 start) is for .22LR cartridges only. This match is NRA approved for pistols and cowboy rifles, and is over about noon. The afternoon match starts at 2pm, is NRA approved, and is for straight wall pistol cartridge rifles and Hunter's Pistol cartridges (see some of the silhouette shooters for more info on acceptable cartridges). You don't have to be a NRA shooter to come out and ring the steel, just be willing to have some fun.
15 shots are fired at each of the four animals for both the morning and afternoon matches. Shooters fire in relays, starting on various animals and progressing to shoot at different animals (chickens to pigs to turkeys to rams to chickens, etc.). Practice shots can be taken during the hour prior to each match.
All shooters, spotters, and helpers must have hearing and eye protection. Spectators are encouraged to come out and watch the fun. Guns and coaches are normally available for you to try this challenging shooting sport.
Entry fee is $6. Shooters are grouped according to ability (you don't what to shoot against the four National champions at the club, do you?), with awards given for the best scores in each group for the day.

So come out on the first Saturday of each month and have some shooting fun.
